Applies to the design, construction, maintenance, inspection, testing and operation of lifts and escalators. It does not apply to: lifts used solely for erecting, demolishing, altering or repairing buildings; orchestral and stage lifts; stacking machines and similar portable applicances; conveyors used for the handling of materials and goods such as Swing Tray Elevators, Bucket Conveyors; and similar appliances; skip-hoists; amusement devices; hand power lifts whose floor area does not exceed 9 sq ft., whose height does not exceed 4 ft. and the rated capacity of which does not exceed 100 lb.
