This standard provides standard procedures by which an approximation of the capacity of certain compression-type refrigeration or air conditioning systems can be determined by measurements in the field on the systems themselves under operating conditions at the time the test is conducted. 1.2 To assist in the diagnosis of an installed system for the purpose of measuring operational capacity, but not to confirm component and system ratings.

2.1 This Standard sets forth recommended practices and procedures for uniform methods of determining the capacity under operating conditions of field-designed and field-assembled, con\pression-type air conditioning and refrigeration systems; that is, systems which require the selection of components by a system designer and installation of interconnecting refrigerant piping and control circuits by an installer and which otherwise meet the requirements of this Standard.
