Full Description

This standard covers valves and fittings in sizes 1/2 in. (17.7 mm) through 2 in (50.8 mm) for use in the buried service line from the main to the meter valve or meter setting appurtenance. Valves include corporation and curb valves. Fittings include various types of couplings and adapters. This standard sets forth the minimum capabilities, characteristics, and properties that a service line valve or fitting must possess at the time of manufacture. The history of the standard, lead fittings, information regarding use of this standard, and major revisions are covered in the foreword. Section 1 discusses scope, definitions, references and affidavit of compliance. Section 2 discusses materials including castings and component parts. Section 3 discusses general design including pressure class, normal pressure, and high pressure. Section 4 on detailed design covers dimensions of corporation valves, curb valves, service saddles, service line fittings, and service line check valves. Section 5 discusses end connections including threads and threaded connections, other connections, and solder ends for copper tube. Section 6 on fabrication covers workmanship. Section 7 covers inspection, testing, and rejection. Section 8 discusses marking and shipping. The appendices include collected standards for service line materials including materials covered, copper water tube, red brass pipe, steel pipe, plastic pipe and tube and field testing. Major revisions include: provisions for higher-pressure service line components, references to additional types of end connections, all references to lead and lead pipe have been eliminated throughout the standard and the appendices, several definitions have been revised, references have been revised, material from the 1984 edition of the standard on "Field Testing" is now appendix B, material from appendix A providing information on pipe system materials larger than 2 in (50.8 mm) has been partially removed, and soft metric conversions have been added when appropriate.
