The microbiological quality of reservoirs and lakes fluctuates as a result of a variety of environmental forces that may alter the natural self-purification process and lead to irreversible ecological changes. Data from microbiological sampling programs revealed several factors that could help protect source water quality and reduce water treatment problems.
