This standard applies to carpets for indoor commercial use that are produced by either weaving (e.g., Wilton, Velvet, Axminster), tufting, fusion-bonding or needlepunching. The carpets have use-surfaces of specified natural or man-made fibres or blends thereof. The standard provides specific requirements for moderate, general and heavy traffic situations. The requirements apply to direct glue-down installation or installation over undercushion. Requirements for carpet tile are also included.

This standard does not apply to carpets with attached foam backing. There is no experience at this time to validate attached foams for commercial use.
