Full Description

1. Scope

1.1

This Recommendation covers the requirements for electrical apparatus or for parts of electrical apparatus which are intended to be made safe by oil-immersion in the sense that flammable gases or vapours above the oil or outside the enclosure will not be ignited.

This Recommendation prescribes tests to be applied to prove that the requirements have been complied with.

Note: With regard to this Recommendation, the following definition of oil applies: ""a mineral oil with appropriate electrical insulation and/or arc extinction properties"".

1.2

This Recommendation assumes:

1.2.1

That, with regard to rating, performance and other requirements, the apparatus complies with the appropriate IEC or national specification or with the requirements of the competent national authority concerned.

1.2.2

That the apparatus to which it applies will be properly installed and adequately maintained, and that it will be used under such conditions that its rating is not exceeded.

For example, for motor starters and controlgear, the current under starting and stalling conditions should not exceed the rating specified in Sub-clause 3.1.1.

1.2.3

That the electrical circuit with which the apparatus is associated will include such automatic devices as may be necessary to protect the apparatus from damage in the event of an electrical defect.

1.2.4

That oil-immersed apparatus will not be moved when in service.

1.2.5

That oil-immersed apparatus will be erected in a sufficiently horizontal position, and that during service this position will be checked regularly. /

1. Domaine d'application

1.1

Note.

See more
