CSA Preface 

This is the third edition of CSA ISO 10079-2, Medical suction equipment — Part2: Manually powered suction equipment, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard, ISO 10079-2:2022 (fourth edition, 2022-03). It supersedes the previous edition, published in 2014 as CAN/CSA-ISO 10079-2 (adopted ISO 10079-2:2014). For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as "CSA ISO 10079-2" throughout. CSA Group acknowledges that the adoption of this Standard was made possible, in part, by the financial support of the governments of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon, as administered by the Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA-AMC). This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Perioperative Safety, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Health and Well-being, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. 

Scope 

This document specifies safety and performance requirements for manually powered suction equipment intended for oro-pharyngeal suction. It applies to equipment operated by foot or by hand or both. The commonest use of manually powered suction is in situations outside of healthcare settings often described as field use or transport use. Use in these situations may involve extreme conditions of weather or terrain. Additional/alternative requirements for manually powered suction equipment intended for field use or transport use are included in this document. This document does not apply to mucus extractors.
