Full Description

ENGLISH CURRENT VERSION * CONTAINS COLOR

Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations.

Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.

Purpose/Material Description.

This specification describes the materials used in extruded monolayer or multilayered hoses with straight or convoluted lines. The classification into types is defined by temperature range and material specified for each construction, See 1.4.

The performance requirements for coolant hose assemblies using thermoplastics joints and tubing shall meet the performance requirements per GMW18152. The entire coolant hose assembly will be approved through GMW18152. This specification is only to ensure that the materials used in the assemblies will meet the temperature and hydrolysis resistance requirements. Individual materials will not be approved to this specification. The data from this specification shall be included in the approval to GMW18152.

Symbols.

The material abbreviations according to ISO 11469 shall be legibly and indelibly marked on each tube. See GMW3116 for additional information.

Applicability.

Thermoplastic coolant line materials.

Construction Types and Materials.

The materials covered by this specification are grouped into four types that define the material content, hose construction, and performance requirements. See Figure A1 and Figure A2 in Appendix A for graphic description of the construction types.

For Types A through C: Monolayer construction shall consist of a hydrolysis-resistant polyamide (PA). Multilayer construction shall consist of a hydrolysis resistant polypropylene (PP) inner layer with a Polyamide 12 or 612 outer layer bonded together by an adhesive. For Type D: Construction will depend on performance.

Type A.

Monolayer or multilayer hose capable of a maximum continuous temperature of 80 °C with excursion temperature up to 90 °C.

Type B.

Monolayer or multilayer hose capable of a maximum continuous temperature of 90 °C with excursion temperature up to 120 °C.

Type C.

Monolayer or multilayer hose capable of a maximum continuous temperature of 120 °C with excursion temperature up to 135 °C.

Type D.

Monolayer or multilayer hose capable of a maximum continuous temperature of 80 °C with excursion temperature up to 90 °C, as well as short-term thermal runaway exposure to 300 °C.
