This paper presents the fire-resistance test Standard of Australia and concentrates on the fire test methods for fire protection of openings in fire-resistant constructions, to allow penetrations of building services through them without reducing the overall fire-resistance rating of the construction.

The Australian Standard that covers the design of air-handling systems will be discussed, especially in the area of fire protection methods for air supply and exhaust ducts associated with the air-handling systems. A proven fire-tested duct system will be presented.
