ASHRAE and the Telecommunication Industry Association and their respective guidelines recommend humidity control in data centers, in contrast, telecommunications facilities covered by Telcordia’s Network Equipment Building Systems (NEBS) requirements have no lower humidity limit. This article examines the background of these guidelines and discusses the practical impacts of controlling humidity in data centers.
