This Standard covers excess-flow shutoff devices intended for use in water supply systems and specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance testing, and markings.

Note: the intent of excess-flow shutoff devices is to protect personal property and building structures from damage caused by accidental breakage, rupture, or damage to downstream water connectors, appliances and plumbing fixtures.
