The air-conditioning system in today’s enterprise data center must be capable of supporting on a 24/7, 365 days/year basis current power densities averaging 50 W/ft2 to 100 W/ft2 (~540 W/m2 to 1080 W/m2). Enterprise data centers typically support the computer operations of the majority of financial and corporate institutions as well as many government functions. Industry trends of faster processing speed requirements and higher power consuming servers support growth in the foreseeable future towards 180 W/ft2 (~1945 W/m2).
