This document provides guidance to installers, AHJs, and users of electrical outlet boxes in buildings that have specific fire ratings between sections of buildings. The fire ratings of specific walls are determined by the appropriate Building Code provisions. These ratings can vary from minutes to hours and are designed to limit fire encroachment from one area of a building to another thereby assisting in safe evacuation of buildings during fire operations.
