NFPA (Fire) 1002 Historical

Safe response depends on fire apparatus drivers and operators who can meet the JPRs in NFPA 1002. 

Every driver and operator of fire apparatus needs to be uniquely qualified be meet specific demands based on the influences of the response area -- such as local communities, municipalities, industrial facilities, and those with airports. NFPA 1002: Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications specifies the Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) for fire fighters and fire brigade personnel who drive and operate fire apparatus, in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

New in the 2017 edition:

• The requirement that a Driver/Operator be certified to the Firefighter I level was removed. A new requirement is based on the duties of this role outside the IDLH area.
• Added annex information provides an overview of the JPRs, to help users implement requirements and develop training programs.
