Reorganized from cover to cover based on the updated NFPA 13, the 2019 edition of NFPA 16 helps users design, install, and maintain effective foam-water fire protection systems for high-challenge fires. 

Used primarily in settings that use or store hydraulic fluids or other flammable liquids, NFPA 16, Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems outlines requirements for the design, installation, and maintenance of systems for reliable fire protection. 

NFPA 16 governs components, water supplies, design and installation, and acceptance tests. Systems are to be designed with the required density for either foam or water application as the controlling factor, depending on the design purpose. 

Like the 2019 edition of NFPA 13, NFPA 16 provides information in the order needed when planning and designing a foam water sprinkler/spray system. 

Designers, installers, and facility managers can work more effectively, minimize errors, and conduct timely testing and approvals with this edition of NFPA 16. In addition to organizational updates, technical changes in the standard include:

• Added requirements for working drawings, drawn from both NFPA 11 and NFPA 13
