Recent incidents in the United States and around the world underscore the critical importance of first responder and community preparedness for active shooter and/or hostile events. These tragedies have a significant and lasting impact on entire communities, and unified and integrated preparedness, response, and recovery strategies are vital to mitigate their impacts.

The urgent need for coordinated planning and response prompted the development of a new provisional consensus standard: NFPA 3000™ (PS).

Created with widespread support from fire service, law enforcement, EMS, emergency, management, higher education, and facility management professionals, NFPA 3000™ (PS), Standard for an Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response (ASHER) Program is only the second provisional standard in the history of the NFPA®.
