ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 145.2 needed a carefully designed interlaboratory study (ILS) to determine repeatability and reproducibility of the current test and to examine the method for needed improvements or changes. This paper presents initial efficiency, capacity, and resistance-to-airflow results for ozone and toluene tests performed in multiple laboratories. Quality assurance (QA) and equipment details are described and analyzed for influence on the results. ILS statistics and data correlations are included. Needed revisions to the test method, mostly for clarity, are described with the rationale for them. Major conclusions include that the test gives useful results and that some of the QA tests and data analysis in the test method need clarification. The test variability should improve with the likely increase in requests for test results due to increased awareness of indoor air quality (IAQ) and the requirement for users to meet the IAQ procedure’s inclusion of air cleaners that can lead to lower needed outdoor air, which can lower energy use and help to achieve decarbonization goals.
