A validated analytical procedure is described that identifies and quantifies organic acids that have collected on desiccant materials in filter driers in refrigeration systems to determine overall and continued health of refrigeration systems. This research work uses refrigeration grade desiccants and includes Type 3A and 4A molecular sieve and three alumina trihydrates. Free fatty acid formation from POE and free fatty acid recovery from desiccant contact is shown.
