CAN/CSA Z900-12 PACKAGE [ Withdrawn ]

First published in 2003, the Z900 series of tissue and transplantation standards have become a critical resource for healthcare practitioners involved in transplantation practices. Referenced in federal regulations, and approved by the Standards Council of Canada as National Standards of Canada, the Z900 series have been designed to help improve safety for donors and recipients, facility personnel, and others who may be exposed to or affected by the transplantation of cells, tissues and organs.

The first standards of their kind in Canada, the Z900 series are voluntary management system standards developed by CSA Group volunteer committees comprised of experts in their respective fields. The standards can be applied to both the facilities in which the procedures are performed, as well as to the individuals involved.

The Z900 Package consists of:

• CAN/CSA-Z900.1-12, Cells, tissues, and organs for transplantation: General requirements
• CAN/CSA-Z900.2.1-12, Tissues for assisted reproduction
• CAN/CSA-Z900.2.2-12, Tissues for transplantation
• CAN/CSA-Z900.2.3-12, Perfusable organs for transplantation
• CAN/CSA-Z900.2.4-12, Ocular tissues for transplantation
• CAN/CSA-Z900.2.5-12, Lymphohematopoietic cells for transplantation

• Applicable to a wide range of relevant facilities including organ donation organizations, tissue banks, transplant programs, and cell culture laboratories
• Provide minimum benchmark requirements for verification of safe practices in transplantation-related activities: donor suitability assessment, retrieval, preservation, packaging, labelling, preparation, storage, quarantine, evaluation, distribution, and record keeping
• Outlines procedures / best practices to follow when issues are identified
